Gangaramaya Ancient Temple

A temple that older over 500 years with magnificent and tremendous ancient paintings were secured near Weligama Polwatta River. The ancient located in a picturesque river bank where can make more tranquility. The ancient temple belongs to Kandian era and there are many Lord Buddha statues made of clay and painted by totally natural colors. The expressions or statues are well shaped and painted in a magnificent way. Not even that painted many monks photos in the image house. Also painted many folk stories that related to Lord Buddha’s Life. There are many god and goddess sculptures made of clay and painted with natural paints. Due to natural hazards, many paintings destroyed but there are many good condition sculptures and paintings. This is a great place to observe the Ceylon customs and historical facts in a wider angle.
