Matara Star Fort

It is one of ancient trade city of Down south of Sri Lanka. This trade city was very popular port called “Maatota” in late it became Matara. Anyhow Matara is a great and significant place during the colonial era. The Portuguese were made star shaped fort in Matara to protect from attacks. There are six pointed stars that can be located 12 large cannons which could protect from any attack that can occur from any side. There is still deep moat that developed by Dutch. There are two prison cells in the star fort. Not even that there is a well inside of the fort to fulfill the requirement. The Portuguese were built this fort to protect the main fort and face attack that can occur from Nilawala River. Strategically this is one of the tremendous forts that made by them. Dutch has increased the armed power.  Also, this place was a great secured place for a person who has a higher position in past.
